The Dale County Democratic Party is in the process of rebuilding the local party organization in preparation for the future (2025 and beyond). We need your help. By taking the following steps you will also be helping yourself.
First, and most important, be a good citizen and register to vote. You must be 18 years or older to vote, but you can register to vote now if you will be 18 at the time of the next election (municipal elections - August 26th, 2025). You can do this electronically. https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/voter/register-to-vote
Be sure to check your voter registration status, if you have any doubts. If you haven't voted in quite a while, you may have been purged (removed) from the rolls. You can check your registration status, check your polling station location, etc. at: https://myinfo.alabamavotes.gov/voterview
Become educated about policy, economic, and political issues at the federal, state, and local level, so that you vote for your interests and not for the special interests of those who raise and spend the most campaign money. Please see our News Articles for Voters page(s).
Share the knowledge that you have gained (about policy, economic, and political issues) with your friends and neighbors to counter any lies, misrepresentations, ignorance, prejudice, or propaganda expressed by others.
If you have the proper experience/ability and are willing to serve your community, consider running for office. Please see our Elections & Candidates page to start.
Promote and communicate the ideals of the Democratic Party platform in Dale County. These ideals are consistent with being a good American citizen. Please see our About Us page to start.
Help hold those elected officials accountable who fail to honor their oath of office, or place their personal / party interests over the interests of their constituents. The first step is to stay informed. Then contact your elected officials and express your informed opinion about their performance. Encourage your peers to do so also. Contact information for your elected officials can be found on our Citizen Resources page.
To help both you and the Democratic Party, the Dale County Party exists to:
Identify Democratic voters in Dale Co. Help us by filling out contact form at start of Contact Us page.
Register new Democratic voters
Recruit Democratic candidates for local elections
Elect Democrats up-and-down the ticket
Communicate the Party's message regularly through effective means
Represent the Democratic perspective on local issues
Provide outside resources to help inform voters about certain policy, economic, or political issues
Specific Help Needed:
Participation of Democrats at monthly meetings (existing & future local party officers, volunteers, other Democratic Party voters)
Precinct Captains (local community leaders) in each of the 16 voting precincts found in Dale County. The role of the precinct captain is described later on this page.
Party headquarters office location in Ozark - If you have a vacant location (preferably in Ozark) which could be used for a headquarters office and you could provide it at little or no cost, we would greatly appreciate it. This would be considered an "in-kind" contribution (not tax deductible). Please contact county chair Floyd Madrid.
Volunteers are always needed to help staff headquarters location, canvass, man telephone banks, write letters to the editor of local newspapers, help create news content for website / social media, help get out the vote, help transport voters to the polls, help with fundraising, etc.
Volunteers need not have specific skills, but any legal or accounting skills would be especially helpful in assisting our chair and treasurer meet reporting requirements. A volunteer who could act as a web page and social media coordinator would help improve this website and our social media presence.
Contributions - County executive committee members and volunteers receive no compensation for their efforts, but there are expenses. These may include office rent, telephone, utilities, PO Box, equipment (furniture, computer), office supplies, printing, miscellaneous, etc. Any contributions, great or small, would be greatly appreciated and can take the form of monetary contributions or in-kind contributions, such as provision of an office location, donated office furniture/computer, printing services, etc. (Contributions are NOT tax deductible.) Currently, our web site has no e-commerce capability to accept online debit/credit card contributions. Cash & check contributions can be accepted (but are not required) at the monthly meetings. Personal check contributions should be made out to the Dale County Democratic Executive Committee and can be mailed to the address below. Please include printed name and address on your check for reporting purposes. Please do not mail cash. More details can be found on our Contribute page.
Dale County Democratic Party
PO Box 32
Daleville, AL 36322
Thank you for your help.
Precincts (Beats) & Precinct Captains
Ideally, it would be nice to eventually identify Precinct Captains (leaders) in all 16 voting precincts (beats) of Dale County to better represent the interests of the various communities:
1) Ozark
2) Clayhatchee
3) Daleville
4) Newton
5) Arguta
6) Pinckard
7) Rocky Head
8) Midland City, Grimes, Sylvan Grove
9) Echo
10) Clopton
11) Skipperville
12) Ariton
13) Bertha
14) Ewell
15) Marley Mill
16) Level Plains
We would like to thank Daleville attorney and veteran, Charles Neville Reese, for erecting these large signs endorsing the Harris - Walz campaign!
Please let us know if you would like to take on the responsibility of leading voter recruitment, potential candidate identification, etc. in your community and precinct. Precinct Captains become voting members of the Dale County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC). The Precinct Captain actively engages in leadership activities in the neighborhoods, communities, and rural areas of his/her precinct to:
Help register voters
Turn out the Democratic vote in Dale County, focusing on his/her precinct
Help recruit local candidates
Get to know precinct demographics and particular local issues / concerns of citizens in that precinct
Get to know the Democratic leaning and independent citizens in the precinct and obtain email contact information, so that we can provide informational and educational material to them.
Become an informational source to citizens (issues, Democratic Party positions, voting procedure and process, contact information for local officials, roles and responsibilities of various local government offices, introduction to our candidates, fact checking and correction of any of our opponents' misrepresentations, etc.)
Facilitate the distribution of Democratic campaign literature
Be a proud and visible Democrat and let other Democratic leaning citizens know that they are not alone
Encourage Democratic leaning citizens to contribute to DEC operations, campaign initiatives, and local candidates (ie. fundraise)
Recruit other Democratic leaders in the precinct (at the neighborhood level) to assist you in the above activities
Recruit other volunteers to assist you or the DEC
Support other county wide DEC activities
The activities described above seem like a lot of work and responsibility. Don't let this discourage you. You can start slowly as you get your feet wet! As we grow and get better organized, help and training can be made available. Remember, you are providing a wonderful service to the Party, to your community, and your country. Voting is patriotic! Thank you for your service!
Other Dale County Democratic Oriented Groups/Organizations
(Affiliated and Non-Affiliated, Informal & Formal)
The Democratic Party is made up of a diverse group of people, of various ages, races, genders, ethnicities, creeds, cultures, and backgrounds. We value this diversity and it makes us truly a "Big Tent" political party. In some cases, Democrats of a certain background like to join together as a group to reach out to those of a similar background or to address issues unique to that group. For example, a community based Democratic Women's group is a common informal organization, and it is very valuable to the local Party, especially in precincts which are geographically distant from the county headquarters. A group of military veterans and retirees might get together and use their leadership skills to help us better communicate issues associated with the military and national security. An organization of Hispanic Democrats might reach out to the greater Hispanic community, help address issues unique to that community, and help the entire Party gain perspective on those unique issues. Young Democrats are well established in some local Democratic Parties.
Organizations can be as informal as a community "get together," or as formal as a particular "caucus" or "conference." One such formal organization in Alabama is the Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC), which is well organized and has been active since 1960. This organization, while open to all Democratic leaning Alabamians, focuses on the political needs of the Afro American community, registering minority voters and electing candidates that are attentive to the needs of that community. The ADC is a separate entity from the Alabama Democratic Party, but because we often share similar goals, many Democrats are members of both organizations. Frankly, as we begin rebuilding the local Dale County Democratic Party, we owe a great deal of gratitude to the local ADC chapter for having maintained its organizational structure and having offered a means for local Democrats to continue their political activity. These currently active Democrats may serve as the "seed" as we grow and diversify the Dale County Democratic Party. Also note that the ADC was instrumental in court litigations which have lead to congressional redistricting here in Alabama. This redistricting helped us elect a second Democratic Congressman from Alabama, Shomari Figures.
Please contact us if you wish to develop and foster a Democratic Party group serving a particular Dale Co. community or constituency.
